What are loose bodies?
During repetitive overhead and lifting activities, the elbow experiences tremendous stress. When repeated on a continuous basis (such as during weightlifting or manual work) this may lead to the formation of small loose fragments of cartilage or bone (loose bodies) or elbow joint spurs.
Conservative treatment in the form of painkillers and physiotherapy is often beneficial, but removal of the loose bodies through arthroscopy is usually recommended if these methods do not provide adequate relief.
Dr James McLean provides consultation and various treatments for loose bodies and a wide variety of other elbow conditions in his multiple practice locations in Adelaide and Darwin.
