Nerve Injuries

Hand & Wrist Broken Bones & Injuries - Adelaide Orthopaedic Specialist

Nerves are fragile, and can be damaged by pressure stretching, and cutting injuries. This can prevent the nerve from conveying signals to the brain, resulting in a loss of feeling in the affected area. If the nerve is severely damaged and not fixed, the growing nerve fibres can develop into a painful nerve scar (or neuroma).

Surgical treatment can involve reattaching the ends of the damaged nerve’s coating, or can involve grafting an undamaged nerve from another part of the body to replace the damaged one. This can result in loss of feeling in the donor part of the body.

Dr James McLean provides consultation and various treatments for nerve injuries and a wide variety of other hand and wrist conditions in his multiple practice locations in Adelaide and Darwin.
